2016 Internship

We are a 501(c)(3)urban farm that believes in growing food locally, organically, sustainably and in educating and partnering with our community. This year we will be growing produce for sale on over ½ acre of land, expanding the farm’s growing fields, and educating school groups and the community.

We are looking for motivated individuals that want to learn more about and participate in sustainable urban agriculture. Farm interns will experience all the tasks associated with the daily operations of a diversified production vegetable farm. Interns will walk away with a solid understanding of crop planting, crop care, harvesting, hoop house management, disease / pest management and volunteer management.

Internship candidates should have good verbal and written communications skills, ability to work in a team environment, ability to complete tasks independently, some knowledge of and or experience with soils, urban agriculture, and crop management. Experience working with kids/students and volunteer coordination a plus. Good general physical fitness needed, ability to lift 50 plus pounds and ability to work in all weather conditions and be 17 years of age or older.

3 Unpaid Internships available for 2016

Session 1: April, May, June (10-20 hours a week Monday-Sunday)

– Seed propagation for farm and seedling sale

– Row prep and plant upkeep (mulching, watering, weeding, pest management) Transplanting of seedling and direct seeding crops

-Harvesting, washing, packaging and storage of produce

-Working with/educating volunteers and school groups

-Farm research, multimedia

Session 2: July, August, September (10-20 hours a week Monday –Sunday)

– Planting fall crops (seedlings and direct seeding)

– Row prep and plant upkeep (mulching, watering, weeding, pest management)

— Harvesting, washing, packaging and storage of produce

-Building of new growing field

-Working with/educating volunteers and school groups

Farm research, multimedia

Sept/Oct/Nov (10-20 hours a week Monday-Sunday)

– Planting fall crops (seedlings and direct seeding)

-Planting cover crops/season extension

– Row prep and plant upkeep (mulching, watering, weeding, pest management)

— Harvesting, washing, packaging and storage of produce

-Building of new growing field

-Working with/educating volunteers and school groups
