Online Seedling Sales Are Open!

Seedling Sales 2024

The Talking Farm’s annual seedling sales will begin on April 11, 2024! Members-only sales take place on April 11th-14th where members get priority access to seedlings. The seedling sale will open to the public on April 15th. Please note that seedlings are limited in quantity due to space limitations.

The Talking Farm’s seedlings are locally and organically grown by our farm staff and come in 3″ pots. We will offer 43+ varieties of tomatoes (heirloom, cherry, and slicers), cucumbers, squash, eggplant, flowers, greens, peppers, and herbs.* Order your seedlings in advance online and pick them up during a pickup date of your choice. Pickup dates are May 18th & 25th at the Howard Street Farm. As with prior years, there will be no in-person sales.

*All proceeds from the seedling sales support The Talking Farm. Seedling varieties are subject to change without notice.

How It Works

Pre-order your seedlings online and pick them up on the scheduled pickup dates at the Howard Street Farm (3669 Howard St. in Skokie; parking is available in the adjacent lot). At the time of checkout, you will select a pickup day. We ask that you try to adhere to your pickup day as we fill orders weekly based on the best available seedlings that are ready-to-plant. If you need to change your pickup day, please email info@thetalkingfarm.org at least 48 hours before your scheduled pickup day to reschedule your pickup. Please calendar your pickup date and window or save your confirmation email at the time of purchase so you have it handy. We periodically check email and may not be able to timely respond to last-minute inquiries about pickup dates or windows.

Which Pickup Date to Select?

Although you may select the pick-up date that is most convenient for you, please be aware that, depending on the pickup date you choose, seedling sizes may vary. Generally speaking, if you choose an earlier pickup date, the seedlings will be medium-sized, and if you pick them up at a later date, they will be larger. Depending upon if you prefer to plant smaller or larger seedlings, you may want to consider that before choosing your pick-up date although we caveat that Mother Nature ultimately dictates their size.

Also, the weather may be a factor. Warm-weather seedlings (tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, etc.) should be planted after the last frost date (typically May 15th). You may want to consider a later pick-up date to ensure we are past the last frost date if you have ordered mostly warm-weather seedlings. I am having technical difficulties checking out…

Fortunately, most people are able to shop online without any issues. However, if you are having issues checking out, please do the following things to resolve any issues checking out:

  • Clear your cache and cookies on your browser.

  • Try a different web browser, as well as incognito or private windows to rule out any browser issues.

  • When using incognito, if you are still experiencing a display issue, confirm you have disabled browser extensions as these can change how the pages look.

  • Ensure the web browser is up to date on the latest version (we don’t support every browser, but we do support these ones.)

  • Try another device, like another computer or mobile phone.

  • Try another internet connection (switching to a cellular network on a phone rather than wifi, for example)

  • Ensure you do not have any firewalls or pop up blockers enabled on the device as these can interfere.

If you are still having technical issues, please report them to info@thetalkingfarm.org. Please do not call or leave a message – our phone goes to an automatic voicemail system that is transcribed daily to email messages.
